To launch this year’s Festival, the Great Comp Music Trust is sponsoring a special concert by the Darent Valley Youth Music Wind Band.

THE SACCONI STRING QUARTET

We open this year’s season with the award-winning Sacconi Quartet, young players who have established a highly successful international career. They present an interesting programme of quartets by Haydn, Grieg and Erich Korngold, who is more usually known for his classic film scores.

THE CASTALIAN STRING QUARTET

Since first performing at Great Comp, the Castalian Quartet’s career has really taken off. They have won important awards and are making a name for themselves in both Europe and North America. In this concert they perform works by Haydn, Beethoven and the under-rated Romantic composer and pianist, Fanny Mendelssohn.

Two outstanding young artists perform an all-English programme, including works by York Bowen, who has been called the ‘English Rachmaninov’, and is currently the subject of an enthusiastic revival.

For several years Roger Owens has delighted Great Comp audiences with his engaging recitals. For this season’s concert he performs a wide-ranging programme of classics from the early 18th to the late 19th century.

THE DOMINIC ALLDIS TRIO

Following in the tradition of the hugely popular Jacques Loussier Trio, Dave Brubeck Quartet and Modern Jazz Quartet, the Trio brings a fresh and contemporary approach to works from classical music and opera.

The Roderick Cameron Memorial Concert

It is 10 years since the death of Roderick Cameron, who with his wife Joy held the first Music Festival at Great Comp in 1973. Tonight’s concert features the work of some of his favourite composers of chamber music.
