The Narratio Quartet
The Narratios’ aim is to make what you hear today as near as possible as to what Beethoven and his contemporaries would have heard, by playing on period instruments and approaching the works free of preconceptions. Early Music Review said: ‘The Narratios have for me captured the youthful essence and spirit of the op 18 quartets, to as near ideal an extent as can be humanly expected.’ Op.18, No.2 is a witty, graceful work with echoes of Haydn’s charm, whereas the Serioso is emotionally charged and intensely personal; equally personal is Schubert’s Rosamunde, expressing painful emotion in music of great beauty.
