Daniel Grimwood (piano)

‘Compelling, fearless and nuanced’ (Gramophone Magazine), Daniel Grimwood performs music of the early Romantic period. The programme begins with a selection of works by composers associated with the Méthode des Méthodes, now seen as the foundation of modern piano playing. This is followed by Fanny Mendelssohn’s beautiful Song Without Words. Her brother’s E major sonata, composed when he was just 12, is full of youthful vigour. Chopin’s B minor sonata is a late work and technically perhaps his most difficult piece.

Fanny Mendelssohn – Song Without Words in B minor

Felix Mendelssohn – Sonata No. 1 in E major, Op. 6

Chopin – Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58
