The Sacconi Quartet
The Sacconi, prize-winners in many international competitions, is Britain’s longest-established string quartet and is still in its original formation. They begin with an intriguing work drawing on American folk idioms and the spirit of dance and movement. They follow with Ravel’s one string quartet, ‘a youthful utterance of irresistible charm’ (Holbreich), making their own tribute to his 150th Anniversary year, and complete their performance with the second of Beethoven’s ‘late’ quartets with its moving centrepiece, the ‘holy song of thanksgiving.’
